Congratulations Heather on your winning contribution. I love how you elevated a starfish to new poetic heights!
Five little fingers stretching out to find that special something out of their reach
Wanting nothing more to expand and grow, to shine as the star in the sky
But she cannot
She is of the ground creatures, not those lifted up so high for the world to see
Little starfish, do you not know your precious worth?
You are beautiful in the eyes of the photographer.

See more of Rebecca's wonderful photos.

Sea star clings to rock
Snatches tiny animals
In the mouth -- gulp ... yum!

The starfish
once relaxed
naturally
under water's
warm caress
Now lifted
with limbs
high as if
in flight
within the
water's embrace
Captured from
the ocean
dried, hardened
sculpted to rest
and to be
his symbol
of the sea

I couldn't help thinking of a yoga pose when I looked at this photograph. It's the part of my routine I dread the most... laying on my stomach on the floor with my head, arms, and legs extended and lifted up off the ground as if I'm flying or swimming, as they say. Whew! What a workout.
