Fridays Poetry: Featured Post Winner

Congratulations bel on your winning contribution.

They wade in for wet sand
Chasing the waves away.
Castles grow and are toppled,
Chased away by waves.

They chase the waves away
With the sound of girlish giggles.
Then the waves chase them away,
Shrieking, laughing. “Help me, Daddy!”

With the sound of girlish giggles
They leave dainty footprints in the sand.
“Help us, Daddy!” they shriek, laughing
As they scatter the gulls into the wind.

Leaving timid footprints in the sand
They wade in again.
The gulls scatter with the wind as
Castles grow and topple over.

spinning salty
which way is up
breathing brine
and losing my place in a wave
frustrated and flailing
and fighting for air
curve covers and hovers
and drowns me in its arc
skin shriveled, shaking and shaken
ready to walk the heavy sand grit
stumble the tangle of seaweed
gasp, gurgle and just get there
wrap warmth round
my speckled shoulders and dry
caked in the stale heat.

(Is it okay that I had already written this?)

Foam is left
between my toes
as water retreats
and sands soften
as it slightly dries

Then it comes back again
washing me away
sinking me deeper
as I stand so still

I sink further in
with every reaching wave
It takes me away
into a different world
