Tuesdays Tale: Featured Post Winner

Congrats to morganna for her winning contribution! Great entries, guys! :)

The little house sat by the creek. It had sat empty so long and it felt like crying as its door sagged and its roof creaked under the weight of the latest snowfall. Suddenly it heard voices. Happy, laughing voices, like it hadn't heard in a very long time.

A family came around the curve in the path. They carried huge backpacks, bulging with sleeping gear and food. The house tried to straighten its door and sit up straight as they hurried inside.

"Brr. It's cold out there. I'm glad to be inside."

"I'm so glad this inheritance got straightened out just as we needed a place to go."

"Mom, it's cold. I want to go home."

"This is our home now, honey. Just let me get the fire started. Good, the estate did leave some wood and clean the chimney."

"Ooh, Mom, look at this great little cupboard. Maybe it's not so bad."

The little house smiled. It had a family again.

Cobwebs would pop up in the most unusual places in their little cottage. Marie wanted their unassuming home to be clean and welcoming to her husband when he returned from woodcutting. He could be gone for 12 hours or more, but Marie would flurry around those stone walls like he would saunter in at any minute. Their honeymoon cottage may not have been outfitted with the latest decor, but Marie worked hard to find ways to bring warmth and love to greet anyone who opened that door. Marie knew that her parents feared for the harsh winter ahead and wondered about Marie's comfort and safety. Marie smiled away any worry because she saw how their struggles further cemented the love professed on their wedding day.
