Mondays Meme: Featured Post Winner

Congratulations to Janie for her winning contribution:

I entered not knowing exactly what I would find. The talk had been everywhere and it was all good. Finally I had made my way to see what all the fuss was about. The line stretched back to the door so I knew I would have somewhat of a wait.

The smell of sweetness was all around me. It was hard to believe that anything I would encounter would not be wonderful. I could see the workers busy behind the counter. There was one at the take out window, one at the cash register, and one who stood behind the counter facing the patrons as they passed. I wondered what his job could be as he seemed to not being doing much at all, however as each customer passed a smile would come across their face and they would move on forward.

As I drew closer, I could see what caused the smile to come so easily. I could see the doughnuts rise out of the fryer via the conveyor belt and be carried under the drizzling icing the covered them so completely as they continued on their journey. As they turned the corner to their final destination, the doughnut case, a special few were plucked from thier ride by the employee whom I had seen earlier and given generously to the eagerly awaiting customer in line.

As I received my warm delicious fresh as ever krispy kreme sample, likewise a smile crossed over my face. It is a memory that will linger with me always.

When I was a teenager, my dad drove me to school. I always had trouble waking up and getting out of the house in the mornings. As an incentive, he told me that if I were out of the house by a certain time, we could stop and buy doughnuts at the doughnut shop near our home. I didn't get a doughnut every day, but I cherish the memories of the ones I did get.

The last place I lived was in the Raleigh area of NC. It was before my divorce. Although we lived in a beautiful home with all of the nice things and cash to spare, my daughters and I were living in abuse. Both mental and physical. One of the fun things my daughters and I did together was Krispy Kream..on Sundays I would get us donuts there and we had some fun eating in the car.
I have since divorced him and after several years of struggle..we are all doing well..I do miss Krispy Kream though..the closest one is 45 minutes away!! Hmmmm maybe a Sunday trip is in order.....

I remember the first time I entered their shop and the warm crisp scent wafted from all corners.

It was fascinating to see the way the donuts were made! Each meticulously crafted ring of delight came slowly down the moving counter-top they called the conveyor belt. I wanted to grab them right away.

Then when I had one of those donuts, I was changed for life. The perfect amount of sweet coating, the perfect texture, soft and almost melting in my mouth - awe! There is nothing like Krispy Kreme.

...I feel like I could write advertisement for them. HA!

I know that I shouldn't. It wouldn't be the wisest choice. Waiting here on line, I find my eyes keep resting on that scrumptious doughnut teasing with chocolate and creme. I wish I was next so I could stick with my plan of just a bagel. 30 more seconds of waiting will seal the deal for me. My craving is kicking in high gear as my turn to order arrives. Should I go for one or two?
