Tuesdays Tale: Featured Post Winner

Congratulations to Laurie for her winning contribution:

Joe always tried too hard. He never seemed to fit in. As they sat on the bench in the school yard, Joe turned to Mike and asked "Do you think if I smoke this, I'll be as cool as you two?"

School was out for the summer and they'd emptied out the dorm room, just the day before. As they sat together there, they began discussing what each of their future's might have in store for them when a small bug landed on his hand. It was barely big enough to see, but just enough to distract them from their thoughts.

Reaching his hand up to show his friend, they saw the little bug smiling at them.

Jake turned to Randy and said,
"Dude...is this DNA sequence correct? I think I misplaced a marker here somewhere."

"You should have done the Protein Ribbons instead..less detail man." replied Randy, leaned in to take a closer look.

Luke sitting at the other end of the table, was contemplating black hole theories and how he could fit them into he thesis.

Jeff watched intently as Brad practiced the art of rolling the paper into a perfectly shaped joint.

They'd told her to act as if she didn't know them; just to sit on the end of the bench, and they'd would join her later.

She didn't know why, after all, they'd been friends for years. Why, today, did she need to be aloof? Oh well, she'd play along.

So, she sat in the sun, and sure enough, they turned up. They spoke to each other, and ignored her. She maintained the pretence of anonimity.

Through rheumy eyes, she looked at the old photo, remembering the puzzlement she'd felt that day.

They were both called up that week, and she never saw them again - fodder for enemy fire. She never knew why they'd asked her to pretend she didn't know them.

She never will.
