Tuesdays Tale: Featured Post Winner

Congrats to septembermom for her winning contribution!

The silence unnerved him as he sat wondering about the morning's sermon. After 22 years in the pulpit, he feared that his words no longer had the spark needed to shake his congregation towards a more dynamic faith. He stopped to look at his hands aching with the pangs of arthritis. With a sigh and a hope, he raised those hands towards the morning light as it filtered into the still room. His faith would hold his hand that day as he ascended the pulpit. He needed each morning to reawaken his vocation. Doubt would not darken his purpose.

I turned at the door of the chapel. The staff had already turned out the lights, and the early morning sun streamed in through the windows, flooding most of the room with sunlight. I smiled, thinking of Grandmama's soul riding the sunbeams to Heaven. Yes, holding the funeral in the morning had been the right thing to do. She had loved the morning so. I pulled the door shut and turned away, ready to begin the rest of my life.

She walked into the room. All was quiet, not a soul in sight. A tear rolled down her cheek as she contemplated what it felt like being alone. Sadness brought her head to the ground. But then she saw it. The light playing on the carpet. Her eyes followed it to the pretty window. A smile slowly appeared. She didn't feel alone anymore.
