Over grown hedges muttering with time
Touched people watch from behind
“Go on now”
“don’t need none of you”
“all you’se care about is you’se self”
The tall man walking briskly looks towards the house as he thought he heard something.
“Go on, go on”
“What’cha lookin’ over here for”
“can’t you see I am fine, doin’ fine”
“Keep walkin’, like you do every day”
“I got better things to do than entertain all of you’se”
“Mines pretty”
“pretty picket fence makes it more valuable”
“That picket fence keeps you out, don’t it”?
Space between the lines
Crooked and fine
Lines are straight
They holdin’ up my place
Holdin’ in peace
Holdin’ out unwanted
Brace yourself for darkness
Enemy forces kept at bay
Friends have no place
Space between the lines
Crooked and fine

A quiet street lined with picket fence--my kind of town.
In stark contrast to where I live,
where pedestrians are an endangered species.
Maybe there's nothing of interest
here that would attract
a leislurely curious glance
Or a pathway that is obviously a popular thoroughfare for feet.
Ah, I'd love to slow down, but I'm afraid there's just no chance.

E Stelling, interpret as you will
Every morning
I glance out
my window
as the
students pass
by
My house has
been here
100 years
and I've
been in it
all my
life
Their campus
to the left
Student housing
to the right
and people in
black suits
visit often
discussing the
value of my
home
Every morning
I glance out
my window
as the
students pass
by
And I know
I won't be
here forever
but I'll be
here for
now
Those young
ones haven't
the faintest
who is
living
in the house
with the white
picket fence
they pass by
every day
That house they say
will be removed
to make way
for their
new
humanitarian
building
Every morning
I glance out
my window
as the
students pass
by
And I whisper
to them
a soft
hello and
goodbye
So many people
Passing by.
I do so
Wonder why.
Love the chance to do a haiku :)
