Fridays Poetry: Featured Post Winner

Congratulations Don on your winning contribution!

A Proper Ranking

An empty cross
And two disciples.

Unseen is the utmost pinnacle.
A risen Christ with arms outstretched in blessing?

And above that?
An open heaven.

The Church
Rising above
The sky, towering high
Over the city woven in
The Way We Do Things and The Way It Is
High Holy and ordinary
Days roll into years
Cared for, ruled by
The Church.

I find it hard to feel close to God

in the building built by men
to earn gold

sitting in the pews
surrounded by paintings
of blood dripping of faces
eyes shining in sorrow

Sometimes

But sometimes

I find it easy to feel close to God

under His trees speckled with sunlight
under His blue skies, wisps of white like strokes of a paintbrush
under His daily gaze and in His warm embrace
as I silently close my eyes

Sometimes
