Congratulations to Dani on the winning post.
The day had been a well-needed peaceful that had been far overdue. I walked along the green grass, toward my everyday life with my shoulders straight. After today, I would return to my home refreshed and ready to face whatever I am given.
I reflected on my day quite like I reflected in the nearby still waters which I had been floating on. My boat had swayed ever so slightly in the gentle breeze as I read Tennyson and rested my mind. The sun covered my body with its warmth and I was at peace. It seemed surreal next to my life these days.
I forced my thoughts forward to the home I would return to. The many children with mouths to feed, noses to wipe (among other things), and little minds to comfort and encourage. The job was all my own. The day had been my mother's idea. I don't know what I would ever do without her. The gratitude filled me once again as I strode toward my out-dated vehicle and climbed in to make the drive home.
"Don't you come back until after sunset, Sara." she had told me that morning, as she rushed me out the door. "You have no worries today, for once!"
It was my birthday, and the best present anyone could have given me. Time.
I pulled into the driveway just after sunset, as demanded and as I climbed out of my car I could hear a couple squeals followed by a quick shush coming from a window that had been opened a crack to catch fresh air. I felt a smile flirting on my lips and I had to restrain myself from running up the steps and through the door like an excited child. "Wow! Time really does wonders!" I thought to myself as I remembered my screaming stressed-out self from the day before.
I opened the door to darkness, but I could feel the excitement in the air wafting through the walls.
"Surprise!"
"Happy Birthday, Mom!"
I was covered in kisses and outstretched little arms at once and I felt I was, once again, finding myself in heaven. A different one from the one I encountered earlier, floating on the mirror-like water, but a heaven nonetheless.

(please note "Suprise" is Surprise like it should be...) :)
Dani...I had to get back to you on this one. I have been so busy lately that I have not been able to write or comment but I loved your narrative...it fit the picture so well.
Dan
The reflection caught my eye's immediately and even though the sunset was more beautiful than it's mirror image, I couldn't help but reach for my camera. Yes, the sunset itself could display a plenty of hearts with encouragement; but this, this setting on the glass pond gathered life together within itself. The tree's, the boat, the grass, the sky, the water...the life.
Thanks a lot Dan! I really enjoy your photography!
