Thursdays The: Featured Post Winner

Congratulations to Don on the winning post.

The Rescue

My friend, the giant chameleon turtle, clung to the tree,

while I peered through the
wooden eye of the needle.

The cabin we were about to
assault was in clear view.

It was time to act!

The Poor Unsuspecting Fool never imagined there could be poison ivy on the other side of the ancient and unusual trees.

"The wife may not find me here on Sunday afternoons when it's lawnmower time," he chuckled to himself. "Hmmm, where did I put that old hammock? This may be a place for a little siesta." "Dad, you try to find a place to hang that hammock anywhere!" Molly giggled as she skipped down to the house to find her mama.

The tree was ancient. It had seen so many years. But a memory now will never leave it.

The large turtle had been searching for a mate when it had happened. He climbed the side of her trunk just in time to escape the brownies chasing him with their prickly spears. But he had found himself in another predicament. The fairies living in the tree were not happy to receive him, and he suffered a blow that has left him a part of the tree forever.

Years and years later, he is still a part of the tree, which has begun to grow over him somewhat. He will forever be frozen there at the hands of the fairies who have left long ago.
