My Uncle Bob was our sous chef during Thanksgiving when I was a child. He loved to tell tales about his time helping out in the galley of a battleship during his naval days. "So many potatoes on the ship," he would chuckle as he chopped up yet another turnip. I remember my little brother asking, "What about turnips? Did you cut them up too?" Uncle Bob always would make him giggle when he would say, "Heck no, we just used those old turnips as cannonballs."
