Mondays Free Write: Congrats Christine!

Congratulations Christine on your winning contribution!

Is it that the gods have set fire to the earth to purge it of evil?
Is my neighbor across the street burning autumn leaves?
Am I in Alaska gazing at the Northern Lights?
No, it's "just another" sunset, a glowing farewell to the day.
Goodnight.

Past the bare branches, there in the distance, the rich glow of life burns seductively. At times I can almost touch it, feel it, smell it, but my vision is blurred by glass and fog and rain as wet as tears. A yearning lies within for all that is beyond my here-and-now, but I remain an observer.
