Mondays Meme: Featured Post Winner

Congratulations to Janie for her winning words. I could almost taste the chocolate with your description, Janie :)

I don't think there are many women who do not love the taste of chocolate. It has a way of making ones cares slip silently away if only for a brief moment, leaving you in an intoxicated state of bliss.

Much like a good bottle of wine, a quality chocolate has a way of enveloping one in even a deeper sense. My first experience with such chocolate was shortly after my divorce. My days were busy with work, school and giving adequate time to my kids. It was late in the evening or possibly early in the morning I was not sure. I arose as I could not sleep as usual.

I had purchased them a couple days earlier. A small gold box filled with 4 small chocolates, yet not just any chocolates. These were said to be some of the best chocolates one could buy. I had treated myself to them, something I had not done since I was young. I felt I needed to do something for myself, something nice. I pulled them from the hiding place in the fridge behind the velvetta cheese in the dairy box and opened them.

They stared up at me inviting me to taste. This was not the first time I had gazed upon them, but it would be the first time I finally succumbed to their temptation. I gently took the chocolate out of the box and slowly placed it to my lips. Its rich aroma was luscious. As I took the first bite I could feel the wonderfully rich chocolate taste run down my throat. I was experiencing a chocolate high.

I carefully placed the box back in its hiding place and made my way back to bed. As I snuggled myself under the covers, the taste still lingered in my mouth. I had found my tiny escape from the woes of my world. I had found it in a tiny piece of chocolate.

To me, Godiva chocolates are the epitome of being an adult. They are my parents' favorite chocolates, and they exchanged boxes frequently when I was a child. Us little ones were never even allowed a taste, as we sometimes were with less expensive chocolates. Of course, now, I still never eat them, because I live somewhere they aren't sold!

All of us anxiously sat at the long conference table waiting to see what the big boss had to say. Fresh and nervous, 22 year old me wondered why he called all of the secretaries to this imposing room on that cold Monday morning. He walked in with his usual business-like demeanor. He gestured to his assistant who started to slide beautiful gold boxes of Godiva chocolate down to each of us. They were so creamy as we devoured them during lunch. A money bonus would have been best, but these chocolates were a very close second.

I had never had Godiva chocolates until I was in my early 30's. When we moved to NC in 94 there was a mall nearby with a Godiva shop...oooo it called me everytime we were there..I do adore a good coconut cream. So when we went I would pop in and buy a piece for each of my girls and I. I seldom bought a box, only one at a time. I have such wonderful memories of walking with them when they were young, each of us savoring a chocolate of our choice.

I've never, that I can recall, had Godiva chocolates. Yet, I do adore See's Candy chocolates more than anything! After having a box of those, I never could go back to any other kind. They are delightful! I'm so happy to be blessed with a grandmother-in-law who loves to gift everyone in the family with See's Candy 1-pound gift certificates every chance she gets. Mmmm-mmm!
