The stream, the grass, the trees and, of course, the sky and clouds, could be in so many countries across the globe. How is it that with so much to unite us in this world we still manage to find things to divide us?

The cold water froze her toes as she invited those skeptical "girls" to join her. She liked being the free spirit of the group who threw out a challenge to make things interesting. "What's the big deal? Let's play around for a while!" After a few quick glances, four lifelong friends started removing their shoes. They knew that their adventure would add a little spice to tonight's conversation at the senior residential center. Why not be silly again?
The phrase echoed in my mind as I stood in the trees next to the brook and looked down at her little face.
"Do you believe in fairies?"
Her little voice was soft and innocent - her dark, deep eyes looked up at me with a twinkle of excitement - and it brought back memories from long ago.
I doubted my own thoughts. I didn't want to mislead my child.
But I remember it as though it had been a dream. I had been half my height and my hair was long - much like hers. It was in this very place that I had seen the little twinkling lights at dusk. I had been sitting under that tree over there, pondering my life. I was about to get up and go home because of the cold when it happened.
They seemed like fireflies, but more graceful...
So long ago... sometimes I still wonder if it ever happened at all.
Yet I now looked down at her little dreamy face, and I could not shatter those dreams when there was the tiniest portion of doubt in my mind. Perhaps fairies did exist - and perhaps they visited me years ago so I could tell my little girl today that...
"Yes. I do believe in fairies."
The river made me stop.
How long had it been there?
How many other places had that water been?
Now, each drop, getting to know each blade of grass, and going to a new place. Less of a river, more of a creek, really, but no less alive.

The view before her could only be interperted as peace. Many would think it was silent if they stood in her place at this time, yet to her the world was a buzz. The sounds of nature were everywhere; from the quiet babble of the stream to the soft rustle of the trees as the breeze flew through their branches. The birds sang their morning song as they flew above in the beautiful azul sky. It was nature in all its glory, subtle yet so profound.
