Although I enjoyed the other two entries, I will admit that
morganna's really stole my heart.
I had a foot problem when I was small. When I was four, the doctors thought perhaps it could be corrected by making me wear heavy leather shoes with steel shanks in the sole. They hurt, and all the other little girls wore pretty shoes. The shoes didn't even cure the problem.
Then my mom took me to a new doctor. He said, "The best thing would be to let her go barefoot. Since we can't do that all the time, just buy the shoes she wants."
We went straight to the shoe store. My mom said, "You can pick out whatever shoes you want." I looked around that brightly lit store, full to the ceiling of beautiful shoes, and I cried from joy.
On a personal chord; I know exactly what you were feeling in those early days of being a girl. I was born with two club feet, one slightly and the other fully. I had to wear special shoes, then received the same prescription only I was not to ever wear heals.
