Thanks to Septembermom for her contribution!

"Troops, retreat!" Little Andy never liked Mom's adventurous recipes. Would his winning smile help him get out of dinner this time? He knew that his "peeps" would back him up.

Congratulations Morganna on the winning contribution.

Cowboy
Riding in the saddle all day
An ordinary man,
Working along, alone.

His horse his lone companion
They follow cattle up and down
Riding in the saddle all day.

He doesn't think -- he tries
To forget her soft ways, big eyes.
An ordinary man

Living the best he can
With horse, lariat, cattle,
Working along, alone.

I'm sorry this is so very late, and I hope it doesn't confuse anyone. My kid and my car both need unexpected fixing yesterday. Everything's fine now, but it messed with my schedule.

Congratulations Dani on the winning contribution.

Amongst the chaos is the getaway
Within the world is a solace
Come sit amongst the green
Swallow up some fresh air
Let it cleanse your soul
And start anew

Congrat's to Dina for her winning post, it left me with an enjoyable curiosity :

I visit you on this mild mid-winter day
to see if you've survived so far
Still semi-green even through frost
Bare, gray-barked limbs carry ornament bobbers
celebrating the fisherman's upcoming season
Lures, left from lazy casts last autumn, dangle
for children to earn with ragged sticks
The lake patiently waits
for the motorboats' hum.
No buzz of a pole sending out bait,
no laughter from the picnic-families that are warm indoors now.
No recognizable animal voices.
Too quiet, I worry
I throw a stone into the water...
loud plop, rings of life, ripple from the cold breeze
tells me you'll be waiting

Tuesdays Tale: Featured Post Winner

Congratulations, septembermom, for your words of understanding:

That little picture collage would peek out at her as she doled out her medication throughout the day. Whenever she had to swallow that really big horse pill, she would lock eyes with those of her impish grandson in a fun photo of their last time at the lake. He became her reliable companion when she had to do the right thing and remember her medication. She wanted to keep up her health so that she could run a little easier during those giggling hide and seek sessions with a shaggy haired, always curious five year old.

This one brought back memories, thoughts of my mother. My oldest son was only five years old at the time that she began resistance against breast cancer.  Not only because it touched my heart and mind the way that it did, but because of the detail found in the photo and the truth of so many lives..this was surely fitting for the featured post.

Tuesdays Tale: Featured Post Winner

Great detailed words, morganna...congratulations for the featured post today. Glad it was a semi-happy ending :)

The snow slid smoothly away under his skis. The rhythm was mind-numbing, and he tried to concentrate on it, forget what Janelle had done to him. Left, right, left, right, left. It was no good, how dare she leave him for that creep? How was he going to live without her?

He paused in his rhythm at the edge of a slope and fingered the pistol in his right pocket. Maybe he should just end it all now. No, that wasn't right. Maybe he should take Janelle and the creep with him. No, then their kids would grow up alone.

What was he going to do? He pulled the pistol from his pocket and stared at it. He had bought it years ago. Never used it much. Didn't feel like it now. He cracked it open and emptied the chambers. He pocketed the bullets and closed the gun. Then he pulled back his arm and threw it down the slope into the reeds as hard as he could. He turned back down the trail towards town. He still didn't know what he was going to do, but he did know he didn't feel like dying.
