Thanks, the wild magnolia, for your contribution!

Kitty sat stone still
a silent revel of love
Hand upon fur
to rub the right way
a show of love
takes only a moment

Congratulations Dani on your well done story!
I enjoyed reading it very much :)

The evening was a bit chilly as I strolled through the park. The sky had that strange lighter blue look to it that made it almost white, but not quite, but I couldn't see any clouds, necessarily. As I contemplated the sky, my eyes focused on the branches of the trees above me where two silhouettes sat like black statues. Then suddenly one of their heads moved in one quick motion, almost robotic. The beak was visible now and I saw it open for a moment and as it sounded its strange and unique call, I saw the breast feathers rise as its chest puffed up while it spoke. Their dark feathers reminded me of Edgar Allen Poe bits and those strange rotting creatures of flight in Garth Nix's The Abhorsen Chronicles. Why did these birds with their sleek black feathers and interesting contrast in vocal chords to their other winged counterparts have so much more stardom amongst writers of woe and darkness then other creatures that roam the earth? They stared down at me from their branch with their perfectly round beady eyes for a moment until I noticed I'd stopped walking and was gawking up at them. I probably looked like an imbecile standing here looking up at the sky, and so as I continued down the pathway I didn't look back when I heard another of their calls coming from behind me. I kept a forward pace, listening unobtrusively.

Thanks for your contribution, Xandersmom78!

The fence stands like a sentinel, paint chipping off in swatches.
The birds’ homes are all lined up, hanging from the wire.
There is an interloper in the midst.
The clay heart glints in the sunlight, trying to blend in.

Thank you Dani for your contribution.
I would like to hang out with Charlie too!

The day was a beautiful one and there was nothing like getting away to the beach for awhile. Charlie always made the world look so much simpler and more enjoyable when I brought him along. He splashed in the water without any worries, just enjoying its coolness. I sat on a towel to watch at first, no intention of getting wet, but watching him made me suddenly wish I'd brought my swimming suit along. The water gripped to his fur as though it hoped to hitch a ride somewhere. Then as he came dripping back over to me, I knew where its ride would lead. As he shook, I closed my eyes a moment and the cool drops of fur-soaked water hit me like a cold shower. I ruffled his wet fur and then proposed a race and we ran together then for another dip.

Congratulations to morganna on the winning contribution.

Let go today,
The sorrows and pleasures,
Free them
Lay down your head
Close your eyes
Accept the dark
Let go the day

Congrats Heather T. for your winning contribution!

There it is, the house with the soft light. Every night I can't help but watch. I know that I shouldn't but the music is so soothing to my ears and to watch her dance like she does, well, she reminds me of my mother when I was a little girl.

Congratulations Don on your winning contribution! You captured this smart cat's attitude playfully in your poem. I enjoyed all of the entries this week :)

Green eyed,
gray coated,
slightly off-centered:
Cat-I-am.

Mouth closed,
eyes wide opened,
ears on alert:
Cat-I-am.

Here I come!

Lion maned,
tail aloft,
step on-line:
Cat-I-am.

Undeterred
by camera wielding
human:
Cat-I-am.

Here I come!
Cat-I-am.

Congratulations to Chef E for her fine interpretation to Sarah's photo:

Over grown hedges muttering with time
Touched people watch from behind
“Go on now”
“don’t need none of you”
“all you’se care about is you’se self”
The tall man walking briskly looks towards the house as he thought he heard something.
“Go on, go on”
“What’cha lookin’ over here for”
“can’t you see I am fine, doin’ fine”
“Keep walkin’, like you do every day”
“I got better things to do than entertain all of you’se”
“Mines pretty”
“pretty picket fence makes it more valuable”
“That picket fence keeps you out, don’t it”?

Space between the lines
Crooked and fine
Lines are straight
They holdin’ up my place
Holdin’ in peace
Holdin’ out unwanted
Brace yourself for darkness
Enemy forces kept at bay
Friends have no place
Space between the lines
Crooked and fine

Congratulations to Scriptor Senex for the winning post memories.  And, yes, there is something about these little nuts that makes one want to collect them :).

The acorn of the English Oak has a spike attaching it to the twig. When these fall and the acorn rolls out of its cup one is left with a miniature smoker's pipe. We used these to enable our glove puppets to pretend to have a smoke in the days before this was not a 'Bad Thing' for children to do.
The acorns themselves would be planted and we would watch the little oaks grow.

Even nowadays I cannot help but pick up acorns when I see themn on the ground - there's something about them that makes one want to collect them - even if logic dictates there is no point.

Congratulations to De Lly Dilettante for her winning contribution:

The tiny thing quivered. Its anxiety ballooning to the proportions of magnifying power of the lens used to examine it. The stink of cheese puffs in their warm damp breaths was just as pervasive as their prying eyes. A total invasion of privacy.

All of the contributions were wonderful for this post. It was really not easy choosing, but this one kept making me smile when I read it. I could "totally" picture the look on the bugs face :)
