Featured contributor, congrats to you, The Wild Magnolia!

Too little to play with the big kids.

Too big to play with the little babies.

Just right to sit in the wiry grass, swing the silver sword, and slay the dragon.

Thanks to the wild magnolia for her wonderful contribution.

The autumn gold
fallen leaves
imprint upon
my heart
forever warm

The snow bright
winter night
shall not erase
a season past
the wheel shall
turn again

Thank you, J Cosmo Newberry, for your contribution

My Lover
You are so handsome.
Welcome to my bed.
Your pleasure’s here.
You will be done
In ways you will not have guessed of.
Give me your hand and follow me
And I’ll give you an experience
As I have given to those who have come before you.
Take me not with timidity
But deliver me from wanting.
For you I am thankful,
For the pleasure and the dinner,
For coming and cumming,
Amen.

Congratulations Scriptor Senex on your winning contribution.

That shattered building in the lane;
Fallen into disuse
Doorways and windows blanks.
How many memories did it contain
That are now let loose
Through the gaps between the planks?

Thanks for your contribution, Septembermom.

My Uncle Bob was our sous chef during Thanksgiving when I was a child. He loved to tell tales about his time helping out in the galley of a battleship during his naval days. "So many potatoes on the ship," he would chuckle as he chopped up yet another turnip. I remember my little brother asking, "What about turnips? Did you cut them up too?" Uncle Bob always would make him giggle when he would say, "Heck no, we just used those old turnips as cannonballs."

Soft, warm toes
Round, wet nose
Breathe of new
Heart so true
Bounce to play
Snuggle to stay
Time to go
Hear a no
Never give up

Congrats to morganna for her winning contribution! Great entries, guys! :)

The little house sat by the creek. It had sat empty so long and it felt like crying as its door sagged and its roof creaked under the weight of the latest snowfall. Suddenly it heard voices. Happy, laughing voices, like it hadn't heard in a very long time.

A family came around the curve in the path. They carried huge backpacks, bulging with sleeping gear and food. The house tried to straighten its door and sit up straight as they hurried inside.

"Brr. It's cold out there. I'm glad to be inside."

"I'm so glad this inheritance got straightened out just as we needed a place to go."

"Mom, it's cold. I want to go home."

"This is our home now, honey. Just let me get the fire started. Good, the estate did leave some wood and clean the chimney."

"Ooh, Mom, look at this great little cupboard. Maybe it's not so bad."

The little house smiled. It had a family again.

"I envy the farm girl," she thought as the villagers cheered the joust. Birth made her a royal. She would have preferred to live a simpler life full of easy laughter and comforting relationships. One particularly jovial young maiden caught the Queen's eye. The maiden was blushing as a young lad paid her a compliment or two. The Queen sighed to think that her life seemed artificial and staged compared to the genuine interaction she was witnessing there in the field. She hoped the King would not see the tears beginning to fall. With a quick glance, she saw that his eye didn't think to glance her way. "Oh to be that maiden," she thought.

Congratulations Heather on your winning contribution. I love how you elevated a starfish to new poetic heights!

Five little fingers stretching out to find that special something out of their reach

Wanting nothing more to expand and grow, to shine as the star in the sky

But she cannot

She is of the ground creatures, not those lifted up so high for the world to see

Little starfish, do you not know your precious worth?

You are beautiful in the eyes of the photographer.

Congratulations to Dani on the winning post.

The pot was given to me by his mother. It was a wedding gift. Being a bright, bold red, I worried it wouldn't fit with my other kitchen pieces. Yet now I find I use it every day and usually keep it out on the table. Somehow it's become the best piece in the kitchen.

I sat that morning sipping tea from my crimson teapot and contemplating. I didn't want to look out the window today. I didn't want to keep waiting. I was done with the day-to-day silence and tears of waiting.

So that was it. I had decided. I would not shed a tear today. Today, my eyes will remain dry. I won't even turn to the window to look out. I'll just sit facing away from it and sip my tea.

I let my thoughts go roll forward, the way I habitually did these days. Today I would scrub out the kitchen cabinets and polish everything silver. I let my gaze follow my thoughts - the faucet and sink with their water spots, the pots and pans hanging above it, then perhaps I'd even polish every utensil I had. That should keep me busy.

I let my eyes fall back down to my teacup. Was I fooling myself? Somewhere inside me I still felt like he was coming home. I say I won't cry today, but then I'm not leaving the house today either and I know why I couldn't leave. Because I was still waiting. But if he wasn't coming back, wouldn't I feel it?

I felt a lump growing in the back of my throat and I knew I had messed up already. Strengthening my resolve again, I set my gaze at the red teapot and grabbed the cloth next to me. I would start now. I polished and polished until the skin on my fingers nearly matched in color. I set it in front of me again and admired its shine. It glowed brighter than ever: my bright spot in the kitchen.

Then a movement caught my eye. Reflected on the shiny surface was the window behind me. The one I had resolved not to gaze through today. But there was a shadow there and it moved again. The silhouette grew larger within the window frame and I didn't want to look away, fearing it would shatter a dream.

Then I heard it and my breathe caught.

"Rebecca."

My name.

Never before had my name sounded so beautiful to my ears and never again could it but for this moment, as my eyes lifted from the shiny red teapot and met with the most beautiful blue that my dreams for the last 20 months could never hold a candle to.

Then I cried.

Congratulations Dani!
I enjoyed the way that you
combined your memory of puppies :)

Soft and dark,
Warm and cuddly,
Playful and friendly,
Loving and sweet

Deep, gentle eyes
Floppy, long ears
Quick, wet kisses
Cold, damp noses

Dirty little paw prints
Stinkly little puddles
Guilty little glances and
Funny forgiving loves

Giggles and tackles
Wags and wiggles
Best friends forever
Puppy of my own

Excellent writing this time, everyone. It was very difficult to choose, but:
Congratulations to JarieLyn on her winning post.

The lone weed called me to pluck it from the ground. I closed my eyes as I held the stem between my fingers, picturing my dreams in my mind's eye and then I blew. I opened my eyes and watched the furry hairs scatter into the air, believing with all my heart my wish would come true.
